Into the Woods
1986 (Pre-Broadway, San Dieg0)
Joanna Gleason, Chip Zien, Chuck Wagner, Ben Wright
*Pre-New York workshop very different from final Broadway show. Different lyrics and songs, very interesting to study and enjoy to compare to original and revivals. Example, Baker's wife dies from poison apple, not Giant. Picture fuzzy, not always focused on stage at first but gets better but not great. Then again, it is from 1986.

Brandon Andrus (Nick Massi), Stephen Cerf (u/s Tommy Devito), Jason Kappus (Bob Gaudio), Brad Weinstock (Frankie Valli), Barry Anderson (Bob Crewe)
*Funny and charming show with great vocals from the 2nd National Tour. Complete show, including curtain calls and BCEFA speech. There is slight shakiness in between scenes but generally very steady and clear. The only thing that irks me is how the camera picked up all the stage markings, but otherwise, great show!

Stark Sands (Charlie Price), Billy Porter (Lola), Annaleigh Ashford (Lauren), Celina Carvajal (Nicola), Daniel Stewart Sherman (Don), Marcus Neville (George), Jonah Halperin (s/b Young Charlie), Marquise Neal (Young Lola).
*Fun show with a pertinent (but not obtrusive) message, Billy Porter is just amazing. This is somewhat more obstructed than other shows because the person in front was leaning forward and moving a lot, so there's a head in some of the scenes. Some shakiness and wandering in between, particularly at the beginning, but otherwise a good video with nice closeups. Complete show including curtain call.

*An excellent capture of this production at La Jolla Playhouse. A phenomenal cast in this adaptation of the movie. The first minute or so of act one is blacked out, and there are a few quick drop-outs throughout the show, but nothing major. There are some heads at the bottom, but no major obstructions. There's also a bit of washout in some of the wides. Filmed with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is a little quiet during the dialogue scenes, but very nice overall

Steffanie Leigh (Mary Poppins), Chuck Rea (u/s Bert), Carly Paige Baron (Jane Banks), Aidan Gemme (Michael Banks), Tom Souhrada (u/s George Banks), Megan Osterhaus (Winifred Banks), James Hindman (u/s Bank Chairman), Julie Barnes (u/s Miss Lark).
*Understudy night. Act 1 is complete, slightly shaky but nothing too bad. There are a few blackouts, mostly nothing longer than a few seconds, and some wandering during 'Being Mrs Banks' as the kid in front kept standing up. It is rather annoying to film with so many kids in the audience but the Master did the best and its mostly good and quite focused. Act 2 starts in the middle of Brimstone and Treacle (so its missing 3 minutes), but is a much better shot with few obstructions as the Master moved. Some wide shots for the sets and choreography, and close ups when necessary.

*Good show. Different sets from the Broadway version but still pretty impressive. Great cast. The first act is nearly perfectly filmed (few moments of shakiness between scenes) but unblocked and focused. The second act is missing the first 5 minutes, with some slight obstructions (a few seconds) but the master shot around it well. No curtain call.
